I help teens that are desperate to stop overwhelming emotions like fear, frustration, sadness, and loneliness.  Feeling emotionally out of control is frightening and painful. It causes us to hurt ourselves and others, both physically and emotionally.

Having to deal with the aftermath of impulsive decisions and behaviors just makes it worse and creates new problems. If you are reading this and thinking “That’s me!” or “that’s my teen!”… you aren’t alone.

Over the last 10 years I’ve helped many teens take back control of their thoughts and emotions. In therapy we work to figure out how life events and relationships may be causing these overwhelming emotions and learn ways to stop the behaviors that keep the ball rolling.

Over time we can decrease the confusion, anger, and hopelessness that keeps you stuck. We can stop self-injury, suicidal thinking, and impulsive or high-risk behaviors to create a life you want to wake up to.

Because teens aren’t the only ones that need help sometimes, I also help families and parents. Living with the fear of someone you love hurting themselves or being suicidal is indescribable for a parent or family member. You are often left not knowing how to respond to your loved one and experiencing guilt and anxiety of your own.

For as long as I have been helping teens I have also helped parents to understand their teen’s self-destructive behaviors, learn the best strategies for parenting a teen with emotional sensitivities, and explore their own emotions associated with living in fear.

Siblings, frequently the silent bystanders, are also often affected by fear, frustration, and sadness when a family member is struggling. I welcome all members of the family who seek a better understanding and place to safely express themselves.

During our therapy sessions I will use research-backed treatment interventions including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), DBT Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE), and Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). These approaches have been proven to be successful at treating a range of problems including depression, emotion dysregulation, anxiety, low self-esteem, and emotional physical and sexual traumas.

Over the years I have received advanced training and private consultation with leading experts and creators of these therapies to be sure that I am giving my clients their best chance at leading healthier and happier lives. My depth of experience includes successfully helping teens and their families in residential and outpatient treatment settings and providing professional training and mentoring to other therapists learning to use these interventions.

I am playing rugby with the local women’s club, enjoying family, or out on the river with my pointer. I love being outdoors, running, and any activity that involves animals.
